Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner is urging the communities of Queenstown and surrounding areas to ignore a voice note circulating calling for a total shutdown.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene passionately urges Queenstown residents and neighbours to ignore a circulating shutdown voice note.

This voice note is attributed to an individual who is advocating for a complete shutdown of activities.

SAPS reports, the voice note’s content encourages recipients to continue circulating the call for a total shutdown and the mobilisation of people.

However, the individual responsible for this message found himself in legal trouble.

SHUTDOWN INSTIGATOR ARRESTED FOR SOLICITING AN UNLAWFUL ASSEMBLE

Having breached a court order that explicitly prohibited him from inciting and soliciting people to assemble unlawfully, he was apprehended on Friday, 04 August 2023.

According to spokesperson Priscilla Naidu, his actions seem to have surfaced in anticipation of the State President’s visit to Tsomo on the forthcoming Friday, 11 August 2023.

MBENGO GRANTED BAIL

The arrested individual, Mncedisi Mbengo, made an appearance in court on Friday, 4 August.

He faces a charge of violating a court injunction, after being granted bail, he is scheduled for another court appearance on Friday, 11 August.

MENE ENCOURAGES COMMUNITY TO “STAY AWAY FROM STAY-AWAY ACTIVITY

Mene’s clear and direct message to the community emphasizes that spreading false and misleading information can have serious consequences.

“It is of utmost importance to verify information before dissemination in order to prevent confusion, harm, and needless panic.

“I implore the community to depend on credible sources and abstain from engaging in any form of stay-away activity,” said Mene.
