Beloved physical therapist murdered in her home in Gqeberha

Beloved physiotherapist, Marolien Schmidt, was stabbed to death in her home in Gqeberha on Women’s Day.

BELOVED PHYSICAL THERAPIST MAROLIEN SCHMIDT WAS MURDERED IN HER HOME

According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, this horrific murder took place in Richmond Hill.

“As women, nationally celebrate Women’s Day today, SAPS Humewood detectives are hunting for a suspect who killed a woman in her house during the early hours of this morning.”

She said it is alleged that at approximately 01:40 in Sherlock Street, Richmond Hill, neighbours of the 40-year-old Marolien heard her screaming and the breaking of glass. 

NEIGHBOURS HEARD HER SCREAMING AND THE BREAKING OF GLASS

“They immediately responded and found her lying on the floor with stab wounds. She was rushed to hospital but succumbed to her injuries.” 

Janse Van Rensburg said it was later established that the attacker gained entrance to the property by breaking a side window.

SHE WAS FOUND ON THE FLOOR WITH STAB WOUNDS

 “It is unclear what was taken during the attack and police are investigating a murder case.”

Meanwhile, tributes have been pouring in for Marolien.

“We mourn Marolien’s death, we celebrate her life as a sport woman ( Iron man!) as a dynamic and excellent physiotherapist, an animal lover, supporter of the sick, her sharp sense of humour, her strong friend- and family ties, her determination to overcome Long Covid (and competed again in the 70, 3 Iron Man!) and last but not least, her dedication to the sport disciplines she participated in.”

Neigbours and community members will be lighting up candles on Wednesday evening.
