A seven-year-old girl was found SHACKLED and locked up by her own mother in their informal home in KwaZulu-Natal.

A seven-year-old girl was found SHACKLED and locked up by her own mother in their informal home. 

SHOCKING! A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD GIRL FOUND SHACKLED

According to Reaction Unit SA (RUSA), spokesperson Prem Balram this SHOCKING incident has sparked outrage. 

People passing by the makeshift home noticed the distressing sight through a window. A young girl was shackled with a metal chain, secured with a lock on one end, and attached to a rafter on the roof.

“Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call from a resident of an area popularly known as Sandpit requesting assistance after a mob began assaulting the mother of the child. 

“According to the caller, residents walking past the informal home peered through a window and noticed a female child shackled with a metal chain. The chain was fastened with a lock. The opposite end was secured to a rafter along the roof.”

THE SEVEN-YEAR-OLD WAS FOUND BY PASSING RESIDENTS

Reacting swiftly, officers from RUSA, in collaboration with the Verulam South African Police Service (SAPS), were dispatched to the scene.

Balram said their investigation revealed that the mother had restrained her child before leaving their residence earlier in the day. Upon her return, a furious mob confronted her, using sticks to physically assault her. Seeking refuge from the crowd’s anger, she retreated into her home and locked the door.

Recognising the severity of the situation, authorities intervened promptly to ensure the safety of the mother and the shackled child.

Both were extricated from the residence and transported to the Verulam SAPS.
