The trial of the five men accused of killing former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa is expected to resume at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Monday, 9 October 2023.

Defence lawyer for accused 5 Advocate Zandile Msholo was expected to wrap up her cross-examination of State witness and police officer Constable Sizwe Zungu on Wednesday, 4 October when the matter was postponed.

SENZO MEYIWA MURDER TRIAL RESUMES

Data downloaded from cellphones confiscated from accused 2 Bongani Ntanzi and 5 Fisokuhle Ntuli is expected to take centre stage in court as State Prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi told the court that a cellphone analyst from the South African Police Service (SAPS) is going to testify on the downloads.

Baloyi said the police officer’s report was only received last week Friday and the defence was furnished with it on Monday, 2 October when the matter resumed.

The defence counsels then requested time to go through the downloads and then consult with their clients.

KZN HITMAN CONTACTED KELLY KHUMALO

Cellphone data expert Colonel Lambertus Steyn previously testified that Ntuli contacted singer Kelly Khumalo twice before Meyiwa was murdered.

Steyn told the court that Khumalo and accused 5 were in communication and the last call was on 15 October 2014, just days before Meyiwa was killed. However when cross-examined by Ntuli’s legal representative Steyn conceded that nothing linked the hitman with the number that contacted Khumalo as it was not registered in his name.

Meyiw was shot on 26 October 2014 at the home of his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo in alleged botched robbery.

Five men are on trial at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria for the murder of the soccer star, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli. They face charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a licence and possession of ammunition. All five men pleaded not guilty as the trial has started afresh under Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng.
