The trial within a trial of the five men accused of killing former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa, is expected to resume on Tuesday, 17 October at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

The matter was postponed on Monday to grant newly appointed advocate Thulani Mngomezulu time to consult with accused 1 and 2.

SENZO MEYIWA MURDER TRIAL CONTINUES

Last week, a trial within a trial commenced with retired police officer Mhlanganyelwa Mbotho testifying that he took Sibiya’s written confession. He also dismissed Sibiya’s claim that he was assaulted, suffocated and forced to sign the confession by police saying Sibiya is the one who told him that he wants to confess.

As previously reported by The South African, Meyiwa was shot and wounded at the home of his girlfriend and singer Kelly Khumalo on 26 October 2014 in Vosloorus in an alleged botched robbery.

Five men are on trial at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria for the murder of the soccer star, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli. They face charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a licence and possession of ammunition.

All five men pleaded not guilty as the trial has started afresh under Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng.
