Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the team for arresting the suspects.

Hadebe said the arrests reflect their commitment in uprooting all illegal mining activities mushrooming in Limpopo and shall send a strong message to groupings that the police will exercise zero tolerance when dealing with illegal mining.

“Seeing that illegal mining activities have become a frustration to the country, arrests like these should bring comfort to our communities that the police are capable of dealing with these illegal activities. I therefore commend the police in Northam for these latest arrests,” Hadebe said.

The suspects will appear before the local magistrates court soon and police investigations are still continuing.

The arrest of these four suspects follows other disruptive operations in Krugersdorp which have led to the arrest of multiple suspected illegal miners. Last week, a crew that was filming a music video was allegedly robbed of their equipment and women were raped, over 80 suspects were arrested in connection with the crimes committed.
