Good news for beneficiaries! Social grants are set to increase from 1 April 2023.
The increases were announced by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana when he delivered his National Budget at the Cape Town City Hall on Wednesday, 23 February 2023.
In 2022, the Department of Social Development was allocated the biggest piece of the pie in order to provide social relief to millions of South Africans from poor households who were battered by the Covid-19 pandemic. This year, the department will be allocated R66 billion over the medium term with R36 billion to fund the extension of the Covid-19 SRD grant until 1 March 2024.
