Unprecedented Stage 7 load shedding continues for second day without Eskom proclamation

Eskom shed more than 7000MW during the evening peak again on Wednesday without notifying the public about the escalation in load shedding.

For the second day in a row, load shedding seemingly reached an unprecedented level – Stage 7 – without a public proclamation from Eskom.

STAGE 7 LOAD SHEDDING AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY

The evening peak feedback, which is published by Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshasha daily, shows that the power utility shed 7092MW on Wednesday evening.

The total demand was 30 993MW, while the available generation capacity was 26 159MW.

As previously reported, one stage of load shedding is equivalent to 1000MW. Eskom implemented Stage 6 load shedding indefinitely on 19 February after eight generating units went down.

On Wednesday night, Eskom announced that outgoing CEO Andre de Ruyter would immediately vacate his office after a special board meeting was held. The board and de Ruyter reportedly agreed to part ways by mutual consent.

The CEO was meant to stay on until 31 March. However, on Tuesday night, he made startling revelations about alleged ANC corruption at the power utility. His immediate exit was announced shortly after.
