The  South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released the social grant payment dates for January 2023 with those entitled to disability grants able to start collecting their money on Wednesday, 4 January.

SASSA JANUARY PAYMENT DATES

Older persons and their associated grants were paid from Tuesday, followed by disability grants (today) and child grants (Thursday) on the dates as follows:

Older persons – Tuesday, 3 January

Disability grants – Wednesday, 4 January

Children’s grants – Thursday, 5 January

Beneficiaries can still collect their grants at South African Police Office (SAPO) branches.

As previously reported, in 2022, SASSA said it heard beneficiaries’ complaints about the previous payment schedule and decided to make a change.

SASSA said if the second day of the month falls on a weekend or public holiday, the payment will take place on the following work day. Older person and the associated grants are paid first followed by disability grants and child grants.

Earlier in November 2022, state owned banking institution Postbank issued an apology to SASSA grant beneficiaries after they could not access their grant monies at ATM’s and retailers nationwide due to a system glitch that impacted payments.

Postbank then advised the social grant beneficiaries to proceed to withdraw social grants at all ATM’s and retail outlets nationwide that provide the cashback functionality which includes Shoprite, Checkers, USave, Pick n Pay and Boxer.
