According to the Gauteng Department of Education, the alleged learners from Sir Pierre van Ryneveld High School and Sunrise Combined College were involved in a fight which led to the deceased sustaining serious injuries on Wednesday, 07 September 2022.

Neo was rushed to Thembisa hospital after being stabilised on the scene. Unfortunately, he died the next day, Thursday, 8 September at the hospital.

VIDEO TELLS ALL ABOUT NEO’S DEATH

A clip of Neo surfaced last week appearing to be unconscious after being allegedly beaten by learners.

The incident caused an uproar on social media and in the community of Tembisa where the youngster was from.

His heartbroken partner Sethu Bleni vented out on Facebook after she felt the incident had too many loopholes.

She said: “There are so many things that do not make sense in his death. First of all, no one helped him when he was being beaten up, secondly, no one bothered to take him to the hospital while there was still time, and thirdly the school has not said anything about his death”.

“They are treating him like a non-existing thing.”

She added. “When a learner dies, a communication is made, the school shows remorse, I can’t say the same about his school.”
To the school’s defence, GDE responded by issuing a statement about the incident.

In their statement, GDE urged learners to refrain from acts of violence.

“We urge all our learners to refrain from acts of misconduct in schools and implore parents to assist the Department in instilling learner discipline in and outside the school environment.”
