REMINDER: Limpopo fun ends at MIDNIGHT due to alcohol curfew

Revellers in Limpopo are being reminded not to be caught on the other side of the law as the alcohol curfew remains unchanged in the province

NEW ALCOHOL CURFEW FOR LIMPOPO AFTER CRIME SPIKE

The Limpopo provincial government imposed the alcohol curfew after a rampant increase in crime and it is adamant that its new liquor law will help curb crime in the province.

According to the MEC for Economic Development, Environment, and Tourism, Rodgers Monama, the alcohol curfew is in the best interests following police reports of high fatalities after midnight.

‘THE NEW CURFEW WILL HELP CURB CRIME IN THE PROVINCE’

The department said it needs to play a critical role in reducing alcohol abuse and supporting moderate home drinking instead of unsafe nightlife, within carious drinking outlets which continue to serve our people alcohol during hours beyond midnight.

WHAT SHOULD YOU KNOW THE NEW CURFEW:

From 1 August, the sale of alcohol in the province has been prohibited after midnight.

Monama told the media in Limpopo that several stakeholders, including the Department of Health, are on board with the law.

“People are quite happy and excited about this new law.

“I think we’ve been very fair and consultative in the process to ensure that we also contribute meaningfully. “.

BACKLASH FROM TAVERN OWNERS AND PROMOTERS

Although this move has been praised by officials, alcohol outlet owners, promoters and artists have criticised the move because of the limitations it comes with. It has been rumoured next week that the latter will be taking to the streets to march against the law.
