A rammed cash-in-transit truck has burst into flames following an attempted robbery in the Eastern Cape this afternoon, Tuesday, 6 September.

RAMMED CASH-IN-TRANSIT VEHICLE CATCHES ALIGHT
The Eastern Cape Department of Transport reported that at about 17:50pm a Mercedes Benz sedan rammed into a G4S security vehicle on the N2 between Breidbach and Berlin (King Williams Town).
The impact resulted in both vehicles catching alight.
ADVISE TO MOTORISTS HEADED TO BREIDBACH
According to the Transport department, the N2 will be closed between Blaney turn-off and Breidbach.
Motorists were also advised to approach the area with caution and expect delays.
It is unclear whether the suspects succeeded in their brazen act to walk away with the cash. Also, no injury reports were gathered by The South African.
However, an eyewitness said the suspects posed a great danger on the affected route after they pointed guns at oncoming traffic causing cars to immediately reverse to avoid being caught up in the crossfire.
R1 MILLION REWARD OFFERED FOR INFORMATION
Meanwhile, last month R1 million was up for grabs for anyone who could help find cash-in-transit heist suspects who killed a security official.
A group of suspects rammed their car into an SBV cash-in-transit van before attaching high-power explosives during a heist in Kimberely.
Police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe said: “The suspects then placed explosives onto the cash-in-transit van to gain access to the money. As a result of the explosion, one security officer succumbed to his injuries on the scene.”
Mathe added that three of his colleagues were taken to a local hospital for medical care.

“Police can confirm that the suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money in a taxi.”
SBV was offering an R1 million reward for information on the heist and the death of their employee, who was identified as Pule Maduna.
