Ramaphosa pleads with South Africans to ‘keep voting ANC’

Speaking at the party’s manifesto review ahead of the 2024 election, President Ramaphosa pleaded with South Africans to ‘keep voting ANC’.

Addressing media ahead of the ruling party’s manifesto review, President Cyril Ramaphosa said the ANC has ‘a good story to tell’ and pleaded with South Africans to keep voting ANC, reports Business Live.

These comments are in response to the genuine threat of the new seven-member opposition alliance to the ANC. In the run-up to the 2024 national elections, the politicking has began. Ramaphosa said the ruling party had worked hard to ensure South Africa was ‘in a better place’ than it was during apartheid and to please keep voting ANC.

Ramaphosa mentioned ANC successes were access to electricity, claiming an imminent end to loadshedding was in sight. He said passenger rail services were coming back online and they had made provision for school nutrition. Overall, he said the ANC remained committed to developing the country, cleaning up corruption and eliminating state capture.

“I know people never want to be blamed. It is reflecting on the damage apartheid did and apartheid continues to cast its shadow on our future trajectory. We cannot run away from it. The past does still cast a shadow on Africa today,” Ramaphosa said.

Ramaphosa added that SA had become a deeply litigious society and suggested that fact was hampering its progress. “In some cases we have swung the pendulum to much in the way of red tape and restrictions that impedes us from doing good by our people. I have directed ministers to look at unnecessary laws. Human rights are sacrosanct but laws that impede progress need to be revised,” concluded Ramaphosa.
