Ramaphosa granted leave to appeal ruling on Zulu king Misuzulu
President Cyril Ramaphosa will appeal the ruling that set aside his decision to recognise Misuzulu kaZwelithini as the Zulu king.

The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has granted President Cyril Ramaphosa leave to appeal a ruling that set aside his decision to recognise Misuzulu kaZwelithini as the Zulu king.
The ruling to set aside the recognition decision was made in December 2033.
RAMAPHOSA GRANTED LEAVE TO APPEAL RULING ON RECOGNITION OF KING MISUZULU
After setting aside President Ramaphosa’s decision the High Court made it clear that the judgement is not about who should be king of the Zulu nation but about the process to recognise Misuzulu as king.
“It is declared that the recognition by the first respondent of the second respondent as Isilo of the Zulu nation as contained in Government Gazette no. 46057 of 17 March 2022 (the recognition decision) was unlawful and invalid and the recognition decision is hereby set aside.”

As previously reported by The South African, in March 2022 the Presidency announced that President Cyril Ramaphosa recognised Misuzulu in terms of Section 8(3)(a) and (b) of the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Act, 2019.
According to the Presidency, in terms of the requirements of the Act, the Royal Family identified Prince Misuzulu Sinqobile Zulu as the person who qualifies in terms of customary law and customs to assume the position of King and applied to the President for his recognition.
