Halala! Ramaphosa hails Trevor Noah for historic Emmy Award win

President Cyril Ramaphosa congratulated comedian Trevor Noah for making history at the recent Emmy Awards.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has congratulated media personality Trevor Noah for his historic Emmy Award win. 

Born and bred in South Africa, Noah made history when he became the first black person to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Series for The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. 

RAMAPHOSA CONGRATULATES TREVOR NOAH 

Following the historic win, Ramaphosa took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to congratulate the comedian. 

“Congratulations to Trevor Noah on winning a prestigious Emmy Award for The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. 

“Winning Outstanding Talk Series in a competitive scene is no laughing matter,” he wrote.  

Furthermore, Ramaphosa said Noah is part of a stellar cast of South Africans globally whose diverse talents and skills are enjoyed and valued wherever they go.

LEGACY LIVES ON 

Despite bidding farewell to the late-night talk show on 29 September 2022, Noah received an Emmy nomination in the highly competitive Outstanding Talk Series category.

The nomination set the stage for a showdown among talk show heavyweights, including Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Late Night With Seth MeyersThe Late Show With Stephen Colbert, and The Problem With Jon Stewart

As previously reported by The South African, Noah’s departure from The Daily Show marked the end of an era, but it seems his legacy will live on through his Emmy recognition. 

Not only did The Daily Show receive a nomination for Outstanding Talk Series, but it also earned nods in other significant categories, including Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming.
