The police in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt following a shooting incident in which two people were killed on Saturday night, 16 October, in Barberton, near Nelspruit. The victims have been identified as Detective Constable Nkosinathi Lucky Ngwenya and Jaftha Mnisi.
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli said the authorities were notified about the incident by members of the Hightech Security Company, who reported that two individuals were shot.
“Upon arrival at the scene, SAPS members, as well as paramedics, discovered two lifeless bodies of males with multiple gunshot wounds,” said Mdhluli.
The two men were declared dead at the scene by the paramedics. The police launched a manhunt after opening a case with two counts of murder. Mdhluli said spent shells were retrieved from the scene and the motive for the alleged murders is unknown at this stage.
Detective Constable Ngwenya was off-duty at the time of the shooting. He was attached to the Detective Services in Nelspruit.
