Police intercepts stolen vehicle before being SOLD

Police in Colesberg intercepted a stolen Gauteng vehicle, a Toyota RAV4, before it was SOLD in the Northern Cape.

Police in Colesberg intercepted a stolen vehicle that was about to be sold and arrested a 64-year-old male suspect on Thursday, 22 June 2023.

POLICE TRICK VEHICLE SELLER INTO THE ‘DEAL’

Police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said the members of the Colesberg Highway Patrol Unit came across a person who was in need of cash and was trying to sell his vehicle.

“The police members upon checking the status of the vehicle, discovered that the vehicle, a Toyota RAV 4 was registered as stolen in Muldersdrift in Gauteng,” said.


“On realising that a crime was being committed, the police activated an arrest plan to apprehend the suspect.”

He said the police approached the address and asked the suspect to produce proof of ownership which he could not provide and on further interrogation, more stolen property was discovered.


“The team confiscated the vehicle and a laptop, a digital projector, 2 grinders, a sound mixer and speakers, welding machine and camping chairs, all valued at R129 300. The suspect was charged for possession of stolen property and will appear in the Colesberg Magistrate Court soon,” Sergeant Sam detailed.

DISTRICT COMMISSIONER LAUDS THE HIGHWAY OFFICERS


The Pixley Ka Seme District Commissioner, Major General Nomana Mtukushe applauded the police involved for their vigilance and alertness which also resulted in the arrest and recovery of all the stolen property.

She also issued a stern warning to the public, that buying stolen goods is an offence and found in possession of such suspected stolen goods will result in arrest.

The public is encouraged to report suspicious trades happening either online or in public to the police.
