NO arrests yet – a MONTH after the murder of rapper AKA

Police said NO arrests had been made a month after the brutal murder of rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes. Here is the latest.

NO arrests had yet been made a month after the brutal murder of rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes.

A MONTH AFTER THE MURDER OF AKA AND NO ARRESTS YET

AKA was shot dead at close range by a gunman on Florida Road, Durban. His close friend, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, was also gunned down during the suspected hit in which police believe AKA was the target.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed on Saturday that no arrests had been made yet, and no updates are available. 

This comes despite Police Minister Bheki Cele’s earlier statements that significant progress had been made in the murder case.

He said despite there being no arrests yet, police management in KwaZulu-Natal had furnished him with a progress report.

Last month, provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker told the media that they were “very confident” that those responsible for the hitmaker’s murder would be found.

LAST MONTH POLICE SAID THEY WERE VERY CONFIDENT THAT THOSE RESPONSIBLE WOULD BE FOUND

“The matter is (being) investigated by detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Unit. It is a very extensive investigation; however, we are very confident that they will bring the perpetrators to book,” he said.

Here is the last information that was provided by the police about the investigation: 

  • Many people, both in KZN and in Gauteng, have been interviewed by the police since the murder.
  • Police have collected quite a number of videos from different CCTV cameras to review. 
  • Police have collected cellphones to analyse data.
  • The suspects behind the murders might be known to the police.

A PETITION HAS BEEN STARTED CALLING FOR JUSTICE

Meanwhile, a petition has been started calling for justice for AKA. Started by a woman named Lelo N, the petition is addressed to KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, national police commissioner General Fannie Masemola, and Police Minister Bheki Cele, and expresses the sentiments of many South Africans fed up with crime levels in the country. Over 12 000 signatures have been added to the petition.
