Man and woman arrested in connection with Cape Town hotel hostage situation

The victim was found in the streets near the hotel where she was allegedly held captive, leading to the arrest of the suspects.

A man and a woman were arrested in connection with an alleged hostage situation in Cape Town on Thursday, 9 March. A 28-year-old woman was allegedly being held against her will at a hotel but managed to escape.

Victim Escapes Alleged Hotel Captivity in Cape Town

Members of the Cape Town Central Police Station followed up on information about the 28-year-old on Thursday.

The victim was found in the streets of Cape Town near the hotel she was allegedly held captive at.

The police went to the hotel after questioning the victim. There, they found an unknown 40-year-old woman – she opened the door of the room the victim was kept in.

“The unknown woman was questioned, after which she voluntary [sic] handed over two packets containing tik. With permission to continue searching the room, members found 1011 tablets, believed to be mandrax and another drug called G-liquid which is allegedly used as a date rape drug. These drugs will be sent for forensic testing,” said police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk.

Drugs Discovered in Hotel Room Lead to Arrest of Suspects

The woman was arrested, and the drugs were confiscated. The police received further information about the whereabouts of the male suspect.

The 39-year-old was traced to another Cape Town Hotel and arrested. Captain van Wyk said the man was linked to numerous other contact crimes in Gauteng.

Both suspects will appear before the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 March, facing various charges.
