There are mixed reactions regarding the appointment of qualified chemical engineer Dan Marokane as Eskom CEO.

Eskom says its newly appointed Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dan Marokane will officially start work on 1 March.
The appointment of Marokane was announced in December 2023. Calib Cassim has been acting CEO since the departure of Andre de Ruyter.
In a statement, the power utility said Marokane will assume office as the Group CEO on 1 March.

Eskom Board Chairperson Mthetho Nyati said employees were excited to hear that Dan will rejoin the power utility.
“They remember his hands-on style that is needed right now,” he said.

Nyati said the board wishes Marokane well as he steers Eskom in the right direction and leads its turnaround from the front.
“We have confidence in his capabilities, as well as those of the leadership and staff of Eskom, to turn the organisation around,” he added.
