Death toll in N1 horror crash rises to 10

The N1 crash has claimed the lives of seven adults and three minors after the 10th victim succumbed to injuries in Hospital.

The death toll in the horrific truck and SUV crash on the N1 bypass in Polokwane, Limpopo, has risen to ten. 

Department of Transport spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene confirmed that the tenth victim succumbed to his injuries in a hospital on Tuesday, 6 September. It was previously reported that nine people were declared dead and two were rushed to hospital and they were all passengers of the SUV.


Nine people, including two children were sadly confirmed dead following a motor vehicle accident on the N1 bypass, near Mall of the North in Polokwane on Tuesday morning.

The driver of the SUV reportedly lost control of the car and collided head on with a truck and fatigue is suspected as a possible cause of the accident.

The road had to be temporarily closed for law enforcement officers and emergency services to attend the scene.

Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Polly Boshielo sent her condolences to the bereaved families. 

“We pray that the bereaved families be granted strength to get through this difficult time. Those who are in hospital are also in our thoughts, we wish them full recovery. 

“We continue to urge motorists to obey the rules of the road at all times, for them to arrive alive at their respective destinations,” Boshielo said.
