The Durban High Court has issued life imprisonment and 20 years in jail for a murder-robbery trio who were convicted back in 2020.

The trio, Robert Chisi (27), Lehlohonolo Motlomelo (33), and Thabo Michael Lebofa (28), were convicted of a September 2020 murder-robbery in Winston Park, Durban.

Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, NPA Regional Spokesperson, stated that Leighton Frank Agg, the victim, resided alone in a property undergoing refurbishment for eventual sale.

Chisi and Motlomelo, part of his refurbishment team, felt slighted when Agg sought professional plasterers, leading to a murder-robbery plan.

THEY WERE THE VICTIMS EMPLOYEES

Chisi and Motlomelo were part of the team, chipping walls for plastering.

Leighton Agg’s plan to hire professional plasterers angered them, as they considered it their job, stated Ramkisson-Kara.

Consequently, they conspired to the murder-robbery, enlisting Lebofa, Motlomelo’s friend.

On the day of the incident, they attacked Agg in his garage and tortured him to reveal the PIN codes to his bank accounts.

They strangled him with an electric cord and bludgeoned him to death with a hammer.

They stole his cellphones, laptop and wallet with his cards and then drove Agg’s bakkie to the Greytown area, where his body was dumped in a river.

As per the statement, Lebofa left the vehicle at the Market Road off-ramp near Pietermaritzburg, removing its plates and license disc.

Subsequently, the men moved funds from Agg’s account, withdrew cash, and indulged in a shopping spree employing his bank card.

Agg’s body was later recovered by the police

Upon questioning, Chisi revealed his involvement in the murder-robbery. Agg’s father then enlisted the assistance of a private investigator, who traced the other two men using cellphone tracking data.
