Suspect to appear in court for alleged murder of Laudium attorney

Mubeen Omar Shamsoodien, an attorney from Laudium in Tshwane was shot dead on New Year’s Eve by a man he had been talking to on the street.

Police have arrested a 48-year-old man in relation to the murder of a 50-year-old attorney Mubeen Omar Shamsoodien who was shot and killed in Laudium, Tshwane.

The incident reportedly happened on 31 December 2022. 

ATTORNEY GUNNED DOWN IN LAUDIUM 

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), it is reported that on 31 December 2022 at approximately 17:45, two males were standing on the street talking to one another when all of a sudden one of them pulled out a firearm and shot the other one. The victim was certified dead on the scene and he was later identified as a local attorney.

Spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said the suspect was arrested on the scene and the firearm suspected to be used in the commission of murder was found in his possession and confiscated. 

“The motive for the killing cannot be confirmed at this stage. The suspect is expected to appear before Atteridgeville Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 4 January 2023,” he said. 

In another incident, Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, called on the community to help track down the killer/s of a 69-year-old attorney Schalk David Pienaar who was gunned down at his home in Mokopane.

Hadebe said the perpetrator(s) must be hunted down and brought to book.

“We appeal to community members to assist with any information that can lead to the apprehension of these faceless criminal(s),” she said.
