The real meaning behind The Ke

The real meaning behind The Ketchup Song (Asereje) revealed and it’s a shocker

Who could’ve guessed it’s about a guy named Diego…no, not Ketchup!

The real meaning behind The Ke

While most of us though it only gibberish but catchy nonetheless, a Twitter user finally came forward to explain just what exactly does the Spanish words in The Ketchup Song (Asereje) mean.

The Ketchup Song performed by Las Ketchup was everywhere in the early 00’s and one of the greatest hits of that time. What made it more special was the fact that it came with some signature dance moves. I’m sure you remember:

Little did we know what we were singing when belting out the chorus “asereje ha, de je, asere du behebi seri Jora Mahabi alekubi sere deejee…” Yes it’s all been a lie.

BuzzFeed reported that Twitter thread by user @Kueaff spilled the beans on the meaning behind the awesome tune:

Apparently, the song is about a guy named Diego who was high on something if the lyrics in the first verse are anything to go by: “with the moon in his pupils, and leftover contraband on his blue suit”.

As soon as Diego gets to a packed club he asks his DJ-friend to play his favorite song at midnight which turns out to be Rapper’s Delight by The Sugarhill Gang. Diego can’t remember the name and tries to sing the American hit in his drugged-up state instead.

And so we know how that goes…

As you can imagine, many are amazed that no one knew about this.

Do you remember this tune?!
