The South African Police Service (SAPS) recently arrested two suspects who allegedly stabbed people to death over the weekend. In the Eastern Cape, a man allegedly killed his brother while in the Free State a woman stabbed her ex-lover.

MAN AND WOMAN ARRESTED FOR FATAL STABBINGS

Eastern Cape SAPS spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge said a 32-year-old man was arrested by Motherwell police on Saturday, 1 October, at approximately 00:15.

The stabbing was a result of an argument at the siblings’ home in NU6, Motherwell. The 35-year-old victim was rushed to the Motherwell Health Centre.

“Shortly after arriving at the health centre, the victim succumbed to his injury. The victim’s 32-year-old brother was swiftly arrested and a knife was seized,” said Beetge.

The 32-year-old man is expected to face murder charges in the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

In the Free State, a 35-year-old woman from Mzinti near Komatipoort allegedly stabbed the victim, Sipho Ngomane, who is her ex-boyfriend. It is alleged that Ngomane, 35, went to the suspect’s home in the early hours of Sunday, 2 October.

“Information at police disposal revealed that the man knocked at the door and after a while, the woman came out. It is further said that there was an exchange of words between the two.

“Reports also indicate that the man was somehow found later by the suspect laying in the street at around 7:00 with a stab wound in the upper body (chest),” said provincial spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.

The police’s preliminary investigation suggests that the woman stabbed the man during their argument and left him outside her house.

The suspect reportedly called for help. However, Mohlala said this would not see her let off the hook.

Ngomane was rushed to Tonga Hospital where he succumbed to his stab wound and the suspect was arrested and charged with his murder.

The woman is expected to appear before the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court in Tonga on the mentioned charges.
