Mamelodi burns as taxi bosses fight progress, instead of becoming viable alternative

Allegations of buses being stoned as Autopax rolls out a new public transport network in the Mamelodi area.

Cape Town taxi violence

News24 reports that roads are being barricaded with burning tyres, buses being stoned and all of this, because taxi drivers don’t want to have to compete with organised, structured public transport.

The Gauteng provincial government hasn’t had any organised transport in this area since Putco decided not to renew their own contract with government – wonder why – and so Autopax to their place.

It seems, however, that the minibus taxi drivers are in no mood to have to compete with safe, standardised public transport entities and three new buses have already been damaged when they were stoned.
