An industry report identified job opportunities based on the highest demands in South Africa.

The data for a CareerJunction report was gathered from 5 000 of the country’s largest recruiters, agencies, and employers, according to Business Tech.

LIMITED CANDIDATES

CareerJunction gathered data and analysed the latest recruitment trends over the last six months to identify:
1. which professions in South Africa are in the highest demand, and
2. which of these professions have limited or scarce human resources, reported Business Tech.

SECTORS AFFECTED BY SKILL SHORTAGES

The South African job sectors that are currently at the top of the list in terms of a lack of skills are: Medical and Health, Information Technology, Finance, and Engineering. Within these sectors, the jobs that are the highest in demand include the following: Software developers, app programmers, civil engineers, tax professionals, database designers, nursing or caregiving professionals, and investment advisors.

IN WHICH PROVINCES ARE THE OPPORTUNITIES?

In addition to identifying the job demands in the country, the report also showed where in the country the highest demands are:

Gauteng – Software professionals, app programmers, civil engineers, tax professionals, database designers, nursing or caregiving professionals, and investment advisors.

Western Cape – Software professionals, nursing or caregiving professionals, and investment advisors.

KwaZulu-Natal – Software professionals.

Eastern Cape – Software professionals.

There is a medium demand for civil engineers and nursing professionals in KwaZulu-Natal.

NURSING SECTOR

The Department of Home Affairs published a list of critical skills needed in South Africa in October and there are six types of registered nurses specified on this list: Intensive care, mental health, peri-operative, emergency, child, and midwife nursing.
