South African youth has reacted to the appointment of Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as the Minister in the Presidency responsible for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities.

President Ramaphosa announced changes to his cabinet on Monday, 6 March.

One of the changes was that of Dlamini-Zuma being shifted from Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to Minister in the Presidency responsible for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities.

YOUTH REACTS TO THE APPOINTMENT OF DLAMINI-ZUMA

The decision didn’t seat well with the youth.

They felt like the 74-year-old Dlamini-Zuma is too old to hold such a position. They said that the move by the president shows how much he doesn’t take the youth seriously.

Announcing the changes to his cabinet, Ramaphosa said that they were not about the overhaul but mainly aimed at filling vacancies and “to direct government more effectively towards the areas that require urgent and decisive action.”

He said he had sought to balance the need for new skills and capabilities aimed at giving impetus to priorities he announced when he delivered the state of the nation address.
