A 34-year-old man appeared before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo on Monday, 15 November. The Limpopo serial killer suspect is linked to the alleged murder of seven women since August and faces charges of murder, rape, kidnapping, robbery and defeating the ends of justice.

SERIAL KILLER SUSPECT ARRESTED

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the Limpopo serial killer suspect was initially arrested for the possession of a stolen cellphone.

The police later discovered that the phone belonged to a woman who was kidnapped in Lebowakgomo in October.

The preliminary investigations suggested that the suspect might be a serial killer who lures women to their deaths with the promise of employment, according to the police report.

Limpopo police boss Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe instructed a team of investigators to probe the disappearance of women in the Capricorn District.

“The investigations soon led to the discoveries of seven bodies of women dumped at different locations in Seshego, Polokwane, Mankweng and Westenburg policing areas,” said Mojapelo.

SEVEN VICTIMS IDENTIFIED

The police spokesperson said seven victims have been positively identified by their families, however, forensic experts are investigating to conclusively determine that the bodies match the identities of the deceased.

The victims are:

  • Sarah Moitswadi Mathiba, 42, who was allegedly kidnapped in Lebowakgomo in October.
  • Moleboheng Mothibeli, 34, who was reported missing in Polokwane in October.
  • Eva Khomotso Makhura, 41, who was reported missing in Seshego in October.
  • Mpho Sanah Sinyatsi, 34, who was reported missing in Luthuli Park, Seshego in October.
  • Andrea Cholo, 25, who was reported kidnapped in Seshego in September.
  • Chisimango Gumbo, 48, who was reported missing in Seshego in August.
  • Jane Letswalo, 42, whose body was found next to the Peter Mokaba stadium in August.

The police said investigations are continuing to determine if the suspect is linked to any other cases.
