A warning has been issued by N3 toll road authorities this evening, ahead of a ‘manic’ day for Gauteng traffic on Monday 22 March: With the three-day weekend drawing to a close, the volume of travellers flowing back into the densely populated province is expected to reach its peak during a six-hour window.
According to a statement issued by Arrive Alive, all lanes are forecast to be open on the N3 tomorrow. However, from 9:00, the traffic is set to intensify on one of the busiest routes in Gauteng. Motorists should plan around the following times:
Another warning has also been issued for ‘early morning fog patches’ on the route across Van Reenen’s pass. Commuters heading this way have been advised to allow extra time for their journey, and to keep their headlights on when visibility drops to a low level. There will be busy conditions on the road ‘for most of the day’.
“Except for closures that may be required as a result of emergencies, both northbound lanes will be open to traffic tomorrow between Cedara Interchange in KwaZulu-Natal and Heidelberg Interchange in Gauteng. Traffic is expected to pick up sharply from 9:00 and busy conditions will continue throughout most of the day.”
“According to the SA Weather Service, early morning fog patches may be experienced along high-lying areas of the route such as Van Reenen’s Pass. Keep a safe following distance and headlights switched on when visibility is poor.”
