She is planning to use her lottery winnings to buy a house with a garden for her grandson to play in, wants her daughter to get a psychology degree and to give R2 million to a petrol attendant.
Surprised lottery winner
The Cape Town woman picked up a cool R79 million jackpot, according to the Daily Voice, in the South African Lottery and wasn’t even aware.
She claims to have bought the ticket and forgotten about it until she off-handedly decided to check it on a recent trip to the shops.
“A few days ago while at the shop, I decided to check if the ticket had won anything. My heart started pounding when the cashier told me that I had to go to the National Lottery office to claim my winnings,” she was quoted saying by the Daily Voice.
A heart of gold
Her first priority is her family and has big plans that will no doubt please both her daughter and adopted grandson.
“A few days ago while at the shop, I decided to check if the ticket had won anything. My heart started pounding when the cashier told me that I had to go to the National Lottery office to claim my winnings,” she said.
“My daughter and I adopted this baby boy when he was just five days old after he was living with his mother on the streets. We wanted to give him a better chance at life.
“I also want my 24-year-old daughter to resign from her job as a call-centre agent and go study towards a Psychology degree, as she has always wanted to.”
But that is not all. She also wants to give R2 million (yes, you read that correctly) to a petrol attendant, who has always been polite to her.
“I have been going to the same petrol station for years, and there has always been this young man who is polite and very helpful,” she explained.
“His excellent service has never changed in any way over the years. We have even become friends and chat every time I go there to fill up my car.”

Ithuba, the national lottery operator, revealed the jackpot was won using R30 and the ‘quick pick’ selection method, in which the lottery player is randomly assigned numbers rather than choosing themselves.
