The latest COVID-19 figures released by Health Minister Joe Phaahla and the Department of Health on Tuesday evening report that cases have increased by 2 197 in the last 24-hours, meaning that the total number of infections that have been accumulatively reported since March 2020 has risen to 2 743 865.
Sadly, over the last 24-hours alone, a further 160 people have died from COVID-19, meaning that a total of 86 376 people have succumbed to the virus since the first death in March 2020.
A total of 2 743 865 have recovered having tested positive for COVID-19, representing a positivity/recovery rate of 95.1%.

The following confirmed COVID-19 cases have been recorded in each province over the last 24-hours on Tuesday 21 September:
- Eastern Cape – 329 new cases;
- Free State – 297 new cases;
- Gauteng – 256 new cases;
- KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) – 594 new cases;
- Limpopo – 28 new cases;
- Mpumalanga – 122 cases;
- North West – 83 new cases;
- Northern Cape – 122 new cases;
- Western Cape – 366 cases; and
- Unallocated – 0 cases, 0 deaths.
Latest vaccine figures:
A total of 16 358 076 people have received either the Pfizer or Johnson and Johnson jab in South Africa to date, with 195 189 vaccines having been administered to members of the South African public on Tuesday 21 September.
