Residents in Johannesburg‘s Noordwyk area should brace themselves for a planned power outage on Monday, 25 March, as City Power undertakes essential maintenance work at the Noordwyk Substation.
The interruption, scheduled from 8:00 to 16:00, will affect various parts of the city. This proactive measure is part of City Power’s commitment to continuously enhance service delivery.
Additionally, acknowledging the inconvenience this interruption may cause, City Power emphasises the importance of treating electricity supply points as live, as power restoration may occur unexpectedly during the maintenance period.
“City Power apologises for any inconvenience that may be caused by this interruption,” said the utility.
The utility faces ongoing challenges with power outages attributed to its ageing and damaged infrastructure, struggling to meet the increasing demand. Following a fire incident that ravaged the Observatory substation in December, exacerbating the situation, City Power revealed that the reconstruction of the control room typically requires about 90 days, according to GroundUp.
Despite these hurdles, City Power remains resolute in its efforts to alleviate the impact of power outages on residents.
Furthermore, in a bid to streamline the process of reporting lengthy power outages and supply interruptions, TimesLIVE reported City Power has launched a dedicated toll-free line.
This initiative aims to expedite responses to individual calls exceeding 24 hours. Isaac Mangena, a representative of the entity, highlighted its focus on addressing area-wide outages surpassing four hours.
Additionally, this proactive approach underscores City Power’s commitment to enhancing customer experience and addressing the challenges posed by infrastructure limitations.
Moreover, City Power prioritises maintenance. It implements efficient communication channels to minimise disruptions and ensure reliable electricity supply to residents of Johannesburg.
