BLUE FLAGS TO FLY HIGH IN KZN NORTH COAST THIS SUMMER

According to The Wildlife and Environmental Society of South Africa (WESSA), the beautiful beaches of Willard Beach, Thompson’s Bay and Blythedale Beach in the KwaDukuza municipality will proudly display Blue Flags this summer season.

As per The Citizen, KwaDukuza municipality Mayor, Lindi Nhaca said that they were stoked and more than ready to host holidaymakers.

“KwaDukuza are among three out of 51 South African sites to have obtained this coveted status. We approach the festive season with confidence knowing that our beaches are in the global market.” Nhaca said.

The iconic Blue Flag is one of the world’s most recognised voluntary eco-labels awarded to beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating tourism operators. The programme uses 33 criteria across four categories to determine whether a beach meets the requirements for Blue Flag recognition.

These categories are:

  • Environmental Education and Awareness,
  • Water Quality,
  • Environmental Management and
  • Safety Services.
