Klopp says Liverpool will appeal Mac Allister’s red card 

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp said the clubl will likely appeal against the red card that was shown to Alexis Mac Allister in the 3-1 win over AFC Bournemouth.

The Reds won their first match of the seaon at Anfield on Saturday afternoon but the win came at a price. Mac Allister, who joined Liverpool before the start of the season, was shown a straight red by referee Thomas Bramall for serious foul play on Ryan Christie.

The red means that the Liverpool midfielder will miss the next three Premier League matches, starting with the trip to Newcastle United next weekend, followed by a home match with Aston Villa and then a visit to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

After the game, Klopp said the red car was harsh.

“It’s harsh, this shouldn’t have been a red card,” said the Liverpool boss.

“It’s a mistake and the punishment of playing 40 minutes with 10 men is already punishment enough. We have to talk to the authorities,” added Klopp after his side’s 3-1 win.

“There was contact but there is contact in a game all the time. If he gives a yellow card nobody would say, ‘By the way, you need to have another look at that.’

“The amount of times I’ve already been asked about it shows it is worth discussing again, which we will probably do,’ said Klopp.

Klopp’s side faces Nexcastle away next week Sunday looking to build on their momentum.
