King Misuzulu calls for an end to political killings in KwaZulu Natal

King Misuzulu kaZwelithini says political killings must stop after more than 20 councilors have been killed in KZN since last year.

King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has called for a peaceful 2024 general election and an end to political killings.

Over 23 councilors have been killed in KwaZulu Natal (KZN) since January last year, and over 103 municipal officials and political office officials have been killed during the same period. At least 155 political figures have been assassinated in the province in the past 12 years, according to the police.

‘ALL THIS BLOODSHED MUST STOP IMMEDIATELY’

“We are a province of peace and understanding. All this bloodshed must stop immediately. I call upon all the law enforcement agencies to arrest, prosecute, and stop all these criminals who are giving our beautiful province a bad name,” said the King.

According to Business Day, he said it was important that our democracy grows from strength to strength so that we can celebrate our heritage and growth. Misuzulu also highlighted the killing of Amakhosi, saying that, too, must end.

KING DECALRES 2024: A YEAR OF PEACE

“In this regard, I have declared 2024 the year of peace, unity, revival, pride, and dignity among the Zulus and the province of KwaZulu-Natal. I appeal for peace and tolerance between all political parties campaigning for elections. I wish you all the best of luck,” said the King.

“I have come to raise something that concerns us all, which is the killings of our councilors in this province. My brothers and sisters, it must stop,” said King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

OVER 300 CASES OF VIOLENCE INVESTIGATED SINCE 2018

According to the Business Day,the latest statistics show that more than 300 cases of violence have been investigated since July 2018 by the multidisciplinary police task team investigating political killings in KwaZulu-Natal, including 155 murders. 

Political killings in KZN province have been a longstanding issue that is often associated with powers struggles within political parties.
