Khayelitsha shooting: Mass killing takes lives of two women and four men

Six people lost their lives after three armed individuals shot and killed them in Khayelitsha over the weekend, according to the SAPS.

Six people were reportedly shot and killed on the afternoon of Sunday, 20 March. Crime scene experts are now investigating the scene at the Enkanini Informal settlement to find clues as to what caused the incident in Khayelitsha.

Unknown assailants fired shots at six people

Reports from witnesses at the scene indicated that three unknown assailants fired shots randomly. The victims were killed in Lindela Road in the Enkanini informal settlement at around 16:10.

The South African Police Service arrived at the scene after being alerted of the shooting. Upon arrival, SAPS officers found the bodies of five victims strewn across two scenes. The areas, according to SAPS, were around 200 metres apart.

A sixth person who was also shot died on arrival at a medical facility. SAPS stated that the victims have yet to be identified. The victims comprised of two women and four men and their estimated age groups are between 22 and 27 years old.

SAPS have opened murder cases that are being investigated by organised crime detectives. The police have requested that anyone with information that could assist the investigation contact them.

Khayelitsha shooting: Four men and a woman killed in Cape Town

Just a week ago, the Cape Town police launched a manhunt for the gunmen who allegedly shot and killed five people in Khayelitsha on Monday morning, 14 March. 

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said “crime experts” are still combing the scene of the shooting in the Endlovini informal settlement, Khayelitsha.

Four men and a woman were shot and killed in the early hours of Monday. Potelwa said reports indicate that the unknown suspects approached shacks located at the Monwabisi Park informal settlement in Endlovini and opened fire. Read the full story here.
