Kaizer Chiefs: Hadebe delivers last-minute killer blow

Steve Komphela once again had Teenage Hadebe to thank last night with the defender’s late strike against Free State Stars sending Amakhosi into third place.

Chiefs coach Steve Komphela praised Free State Stars who came very close to unravelling their title aspirations with five games to go.

Congratulations to them. They are a hard nut to crack. Their goalkeeper Badra Sangare did a splendid job.

It was a game of concentration. In the first half, we failed to take advantage of the fact that we were playing (Ryan) Moon and (Leonardo) Castro against (Rooi) Mahamutsa and (Bangali) Keita. So we could’ve been more practical and A, B, C, the simpler the better.

Komphela also felt that his team didn’t cope too well with the wet conditions in Bethlehem.

We have to keep it very simple, but we failed. And as soon as it got quiet, no more rain, obviously the pitch was still greasy and we tried our best.

With Chippa United up next on Saturday, Komphela was more than happy with the character shown by his charges.

We have to keep going. We can’t give up and it helps to know that there are players who can kill games. Whenever there is a set play, there is hope. At this stage of the season, it is more mental and has nothing to do with the physical part of the game. The right levels of concentration are what is required currently.
