Juju’s jab threat: Malema says EFF ‘plan to occupy vaccination centres’

EFF leader Julius Malema says his comrades WILL target vaccination centres for a ‘sit-in protest’, should President Ramaphosa fail to meet these demands.

Julius Malema has given Cyril Ramaphosa a three-week deadline to meet, otherwise, the president could end up feeling the wrath of the Red Berets: The EFF leader has stated that there are plans in place for a ‘nationwide sit-in protest’ – IF the head of state fails to publish his vaccination plans by the end of the month.

Julius Malema issues ‘vaccine threat’ for Ramaphosa

Bellicose rhetoric is nothing new to Julius Malema, but this time, he’s adamant that action will have to be taken: The vaccine rollout in South Africa has been painfully slow – and the past two long weekends saw ZERO vaccinations administered. Ramaphosa has promised that Phase 2 of the programme will get underway in May – but doubts remain.

Julius Malema, one of Ramaphosa’s most vocal critics, has slammed the president for his perceived inaction on the matter. Juju took to his Twitter account on Thursday, to make it very clear that EFF forces are ready to cause a bit of havoc. Malema wants a full, detailed plan on how the vaccination protests will work – and failure ‘is not an option’.

“If you, Cyril Ramaphosa, don’t provide a concrete plan on how you will vaccinate the nation by the end of April 2021, we will be left with no option but to sit-in at all vaccination centres.”

The state of South Africa’s vaccination drive

Around 6 500 people received their jabs yesterday – a paltry total, when compared to some of the world’s leading vaccinators. The total amount of healthcare workers who have received a Johnson & Johnson shot in Mzansi stands at 278 909 – and there are still one million people in the ‘first phase’ yet to receive an inoculation.

We know that the elderly, clinically vulnerable and key workers will be next in line for a vaccine. But the logistics of this operation haven’t yet been laid out fully. Julius Malema, however, doesn’t feel like being kept in the dark.
