Johannesburg Water has dispatched its technical teams to look into a water outage that was apparently disrupted after the planned maintenance.

JOHANNESBURG WATER CAUSES MORE WOES TO CRAIGAVON RESIDENTS

In a statement, Johannesburg Water informed the affected residents that water had to be isolated due to the incident.

“Water has been isolated in Craigavon to allow the Johannesburg Water technical teams to conduct investigations into the reason for the area outage,” the entity said.

WHAT CAUSED THE WATER OUTAGE

According to Joburg Water, this follows the planned maintenance which took place on Tuesday, 15 August 2023 and affected Witkoppen, Craigavon, and parts of Kengies.

“The planned interruption was conducted to tie-in from an existing 160mm AC pipe at a 110mm uPVC pipe (PRV1 and 2).”

The entity reports that when the water pipeline in the area was opened after the maintenance work yesterday, it was found that Craigavon residents were still without water hence Water had to be isolated to locate the problem.

“Water has since been isolated in the area and Johannesburg Water technical teams are investigating the cause of the outage. Further updates will be provided to the customers,” the entity cautioned.

Nevertheless, the entity has received backlash from the community as some labelled the outage as negligence, which has seen them without water for almost 48 hours.

THE DATE AND AREAS FOR THE PLANNED WATER SHUTDOWN

Meanwhile, another water shutdown notice has been issued by Johannesburg Water, this time targeting suburbs in the south of Joburg next week.

Johannesburg Water issued the water shutdown notice on social media to alert residents living in the affected areas to brace themselves for taps running dry on Monday, 21 August.

The planned water interruption is expected to affect Lanseria, Lanseria South, Anchorvillem Zakariyya Park, Vlakfontein, Finetown and Ennerdale South, including extensions.
