Joburg Water: Reduced bulk supply impacting various towers

Joburg Water has alerted customers about the reduced bulk supply by Rand Water that has affected various towers and reservoirs.

Joburg Water has alerted customers about the reduced bulk supply by Rand Water that has affected various towers and reservoirs.

JOBURG WATER CAUTIONS OF TAPS RUNNING DRY

According to Joburg Water, the bulk supplier, Rand Water, experienced technical challenges on Monday afternoon at the Vereeniging Purification works, which resulted in a reduction of water supply by 200Ml.

The impact thereof was noted in the significant reduction of water supply to various Johannesburg Water reservoirs and towers.

“Customers in these supply zones are affected by the outage.”

The following infrastructure is impacted by the reduced supply:

  • Berea reservoir: critically low
  • Waterval Tower: empty
  • Quellerina Tower: empty
  • Eagle Nest reservoir: critically low to empty

About Crown Gardens reservoir and tower, Joburg Water cited that the tower is empty, while the reservoir is critically low. Furthermore, the outlet of the reservoir will be opened at 50% until the capacity is increased in the reservoir.

“Repairs at Fiona Road have been temporarily postponed. Further updates to be advised,” the entity communicated.

At Hursthill 1 and 2 reservoirs, the entity updated that the reduced supply impacted both reservoirs which are currently empty.

“Hursthill 2 will be isolated at 21h00 this evening to assist with building capacity. The reservoir will be opened at 04h00 on 21 June 2023,” Joburg Water indicated.

IMMEDIATE SOLUTION TO THE CRISIS

“We are monitoring the affected systems and will keep you updated on the latest feedback. Alternative water supply is being provided for customers through mobile tankers,” the entity advised.
