Goodwood warders arrested for allegedly ‘hooking up’ inmates

Two Goodwood Correctional Services warders were arrested in Cape Town on Monday for allegedly accepting bribes from inmates.

The Hawks arrested two Goodwood Correctional Services warders for allegedly “hooking up” inmates in return for favours and privileges.

Warders allegedly took bribes from inmates at Goodwood Prison

The Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation Unit pounced on the Sergeant and Warrant Officer – aged between 45 and 53 – after the morning parade on Monday, 15 May.

“Their arrest emanates from information received about suspected warders who were receiving money from inmates in January this year. The alleged commission of crime happened between the period between March 2020 to the year 2021,” said the Hawks spokesperson in the Western Cape, Zinzi Hani.

The Hawks are investigating the matter and the duo face corruption charges

The matter was reported to the Hawks, and the warders were eventually arrested.

Hani clarified that the “hook-ups” – as the Hawks describe it – were not of a sexual nature. The warders face corruption charges.

The duo is expected to appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 16 May, for their first appearance.
