City players including Haaland banned from Club World Cup final

Erling Haaland and two other Manchester City players will not be allowed to play in the Club World Cup final.

City trio Kevin De Bruyne, Haaland and Jeremy Doku all watched the team’s 3-0 win over Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds in Jeddah on Wednesday in the stands as they were nursing injuries.

The trio will not be featuring in the final because FIFA regulations stipulate that if a player is not selected in the matchday squad for the semi-final, they cannot play the next game.

City cruised to the final where they’ll meet Brazilian side and Copa Libertadores champions Fluminense on Friday evening.

Pep Guardiola earlier revealed he won’t have Doku available.

The 21-year-old new signing is struggling with a muscle problem.

“Kevin started training yesterday and [on Wednesday] he will train with us,” City coach Guardiola told reporters beforehand.

“[He has been out for] four months.

“He is getting better. Erling still cannot train.”City’s next league game is against Everton at Goodison Park on December 27.”
