Those who wanted to sit at a table with president Jacob Zuma at the ANC’s gala dinner over the weekend would have had to fork out R2 million.

The Sunday Times reports that the ANc charged a “higher than usual” price for a rendezvous with the prez amid speculation that the party’s finances are looking shaky.

According to the weekly paper, the “official partner sponsorship package” got you the following:

  • Three seats at Zuma’s table
  • Six seats at another table
  • Golf balls for eight players at a golf day
  • VIP accreditation for the ANC rally at Orlando Stadium

Business people and other big wigs are invited to book and pay for seats.

If you wanted to chill with Cyril Ramaphosa, you’d have paid R1.5 million while seats at the tables occupied by ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe, national chairwoman Baleka Mbete, Mkhize and deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte cost R700 000.

If your budget is a bit tight, though, don’t worry. There’s also the R400 000 a seat option if you want to sit with any cabinet ministers.

Still too much? Well, why not pay R300 000 for a seat with ANC executive payers or R150k for a seat at the table of deputy ministers or provincial MECs.

Okay, okay…still too much? Then for you, dear pleb, there is the option of the bog-standard dinner table for R20k.

According to the Sunday Times, the ANC denied that the cost for a table with JZ was R2 mil, but the party did not want to say what the cost was. Instead, treasurer-general Zweli Mkhize simply claimed that people “donate based on affordability and will” with seating arrangements made “by the preparatory team.”
