Gauteng Education: Over 350 000 Grade 1 and 8 applications processed

The Gauteng Department of Education says it has processed over 350 000 Grade 1 and 8 applications in just 3 days.

The Gauteng Department of Education has revealed that a total of 350 207 Grade 1 and 8 Online Admissions applications have been successfully processed to date since the start of the application period on Friday, 22 July 2022.

As of Monday, 25 July 2022, the GDE Online Admissions System recorded a total of 151 949 applications made for Grade 1 and 198 258 applications made for Grade 8. This brings the grand total of applications made to 350 207.

OVER 350 000 APPLICATIONS PROCESSED IN GAUTENG

The Gauteng Department of Education said when the online applications opened on Friday its call centre received an average of 1700 calls per hour related to the 2023 Online Admissions. On Monday, 25 July, about 350 calls were attended per hour. In addition, on Friday, the GDE WhatsApp line received about 3200 messages, while about 7200 enquiries were recorded on Monday.  

The 2023 Online Admissions application period for Grade 1 & 8 will close on 19 August 2022 at midnight. To apply, parents and guardians must visit www.gdeadmissions.gov.za and register to create unique login credentials for their application profile.

Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson, Steve Mabona said parents are urged to either submit certified copies of the required documentation to the schools they applied to, or upload the documents onto the Online Admissions System.

“Applicants cannot both submit at schools and upload onto the System,” he said. 

For assistance with applying, applicants are welcome to contact our call centre on 0800 000 789 or WhatsApp the department on 060 891 0361. Applicants who may not have internet access or the resources required to apply can visit their nearest district office or our Decentralised Walk-In Centres to be assisted. 

Gauteng Department of Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi said they are pleased at the progress their system has made in processing a large number of applications. 

“Indeed, improvements introduced to the system played a significant role in smooth running of the system. Parents and guardians can reach out to us on our respective platforms if they need assistance with applying,” Lesufi said.
