Former Pirates striker a step closer to joining Kaizer Chiefs

Both Usuthu and Amakhosi are believed to have agreed on terms of sale for the former Orlando Pirates ‘hitman’.

Former Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho Mhango is reportedly close to joining Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.

The 30-year-old is currently with AmaZulu but according to FARPost, Mhango’s switch to Chiefs is as good as done.

Both Usuthu and Amakhosi are believed to have agreed on terms of sale for the Malawian international, who is set to undergo his medical test at Chiefs headquarters on Friday.

Last month, the publication also reported that the former Pirates star’s future at AmaZulu would be determined in the upcoming weeks as the club was looking to offload him.

Chiefs don’t have top strikers as good as Mhango and would jump at the chance to bring him to Naturena. The AmaZulu striker has played for Bidvest Wits, Golden Arrows, Pirates and Bloemnfotein Celtic in the PSL but it was with the Buccaneers were he was on top form.

In his three years with Pirates, Mhango scored 21 goals in 55 appearances for the Soweto club.

New Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki is focused on building depth and having a player like Mhango could be a huge boost for the underperdoming team.

Chiefs have made seven signings to reinforce their squad ahead of the 2023/24 season which kick-off next week.

Ntseki and Chiefs management have so far signed the following players; Given Msimango, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Ranga Chivaviro, Pule Mmodi, Edson Daniel Castillo Garcia and Tebogo Potsane.

Amakhosi have also parted ways with seven players so far.
