FIRED? Truck driver ruins load after undermining height bridge

A ‘reckless’ truck driver is likely to be in hot water after he allegedly undermined a height bridge and got stuck halfway through.

A ‘reckless’ truck driver is likely to be in hot water after he allegedly undermined a height bridge and got stuck halfway through, regrettably ruining the load.

HEIGHT BRIDGE RESTRICTION OVERLOOKED BY TRUCKER

Earlier today, Monday, 15 May, a truck, carry what looks like concrete barrier blocks, caused major traffic after blocking the bridge due to the incident.

“There is a stuck articulated truck , under the Elgin bridge in the Kempton Park area.”

“It is estimated that it might take two-three hours to clear this.
Motorists are urged to use an alternative route and avoid the area, as heavy traffic delays are expected as we head into the peak hours,” the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) warned motorists on social media.

SIGH OF RELIEF AS DISASTER DID NOT FOLLOW

Although the incident could cause infrastructure damages, it was a relief that the truck involved wasn’t transporting hazardous goods.

The last time a truck got stuck in such a fashion in Gauteng, the incident was deadly and catastrophic.

On 24 December 2022, a truck that got stuck under a bridge in Benoni exploded and killed innocent civilians.

According to reports, the tanker got stuck under a bridge and began leaking, resulting in a massive explosion that damaged private and public infrastructure and numerous fatalities.

BENONI TRUCK DRIVER RELEASED FROM PRISON

In January 2023, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi indicated that the death toll had risen to 41.

Consequently, the driver of the truck was arrested and charged with culpable homicide but due to lack of evidence on 27 December 2022, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) released him from prison.
