The brutal nature of farm attacks and murders is not changing or declining, according to the civil organisation AfriForum.
Johan Nortjé, the researcher at AfriForum, says if you look at farm murder incidents in terms of brutality, there is no decline or change in these attacks.

AfriForum released its yearly report on farm murders, showing a decline but still high. There were 333 farm attacks and 50 murders in 2022, yet police only arrested 33% of the suspects.

“It means people are being brutally shot and killed; we also have people being bludgeoned or assaulted to death,” says Nortjé.
The oldest murder victim, 89-year-old Elizabeth Lee, from the farm Breeland, was bludgeoned to death with a chair by a 15-year-old suspect.
The youngest victim was 17-year-old Rhudie Binta, who, together with his mother and five other female victims, was “brutally shot and killed.”
Nortjé says farm attack victims die on the scene or later in hospitals.

“In terms of shots, it is multiple shots. Sometimes people are tied up and tortured while their houses are being ransacked,” Nortjé said.
He said the number of attackers is also known as more than two people and sometimes as many as 11 suspects during farm attacks and murders.
