With the release of the 2023 matric exam results later this week, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi took aim at the Independent Examination Board (IEB).

LESUFI RAISES CONCERNS ABOUT IEB

A baffled Lesufi alluded that he fails to understand the existence of IEB when its candidates go on to study in the same universities and colleges attended by Umalusi candidates.

“One country, one matric examination. In a few weeks time all our matriculants will be in the same lecture rooms in the same varsity or college. Why are they still writing different matric exams? Lesufi asked, further saying the IEB or NSC is a matter that must be attended to.

“Everything is the same besides the name of the exam.”

SIMILARITIES BETWEEN UMASLUSI AND IEB

“The pass mark is the same. The curriculum is the same. The standard bearer is the same (UMALUSI). We can’t continue to separate exams on the basis of class. The rich, semi-rich and poor having different matric examinations,” he criticised.

“All our children should write the same examination like they do at universities or colleges. It’s about time,” the Gauteng Premier advocated.

THE RELEASE OF BOTH EXAM RESULTS THIS WEEK

The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) is set to release the results on Thursday, 18 January, with learners being able to access their provisional results the following day, (Friday, 19, January). Meanwhile, its counterpart, the NSC will release the results on Friday, 19 January, with most matriculants to have access after midnight or at the weekend.
