Father arrested for rape, murder of eight-day-old daughter
A 36-year-old man in Welverdiend, Gauteng, has been arrested for the alleged rape and murder of his newborn infant.

A 36-year-old man was arrested in Welverdiend, Gauteng, for the alleged rape and murder of his newborn infant.
Father arrested for horrific crime in Welverdiend
The Carletonville Herald reported that the man was arrested on Friday, 9 June, after allegedly committing the crime the day before.
The father allegedly took the infant from her mother on Thursday. The couple had rented a backroom the day before.
When he returned later, the child who had been fully clothed when he left was naked and injured. The mother took the baby to the woman who lives in the main house on the property and showed her the injuries.
The woman alerted the police and called an ambulance. The eight-day-old baby girl died in hospital the next morning.
On Monday, 12 June, the father appeared in the Oberholzer Magistrate’s Court. The local newspaper reported that he had confessed to the crime. On Tuesday, the infant’s body underwent an autopsy.
According to reports, the man has had several run-ins with the law for numerous crimes in the past. Community members were shocked at the crime.
The man, who cannot be named, at the moment, due to the sexual nature of the charges he faces, is due back in court on 24 July. He is remanded in custody until then.
